Think Practice Tank & Network Meetings

June 2008/סיון תשס"ח

MAKOM's commitment to building a new communal conversation about Israel engagement in North America includes the running of professional and educational seminars for different types of community leaders to share their best practices, their present concerns, and upcoming challenges.

The following events are taking place in New York City as part of building networks for MAKOM's partners to do their work for Israel engagement with clearer vision, innovative tools, and renewed energies.

MAKOM would like to extend it's thanks to the UJA-Federation of New York for hosting our Think Practice Tank and Network Meetings at their facilities.

MAKOM’s Think Practice Tank (TPT)
12-13 June 2008/ט-י בסיון תשס"ח

Our TPT focuses on the places where adult education and Israel education meet. A diverse group of thoughtful, reflective educators from across the North America bring their shared knowledge from the academy and from the field; to think about the unique features of adult education and the complex nature of Israel education today. Through learning together, considering current practices and trends, our aim is to enrich our thinking and sharpen our practice, and its impact in our various teaching arenas.

MAKOM Lab Directors Network Meeting
16-17 June 2008/יג-יד בסיון תשס"ח

MAKOM community labs create settings for re-imagining the place of Israel in community life. Working around clusters of communal institutions and organizations, the lab process provides a way for community leaders, educators, and professionals to analyze the place of Israel as it is, and as it ought to be, and how to build the strategies for moving Israel engagement from the "is" to the "ought to be". MAKOM Lab directors from across North America are meeting to share their ongoing communal work, and to reflect with each other upon successes and challenges of Israel engagement initiatives to date.  From this sharing, we will craft methods that enable collaboration among communities through the building of a Community (ies) of Practice.

MAKOM Arts Network Meeting
16-17 June 2008/ יג-יד בסיון תשס"ח

Israel arts and culture has become an important venue for building the bridges between Israel's dynamic realities and the shifting landscapes of American Jewish community life. Looking at the challenging, and ever-changing face of Israeli arts, the challenging, and ever-changing nature of Jewish identity in North America, and the way that the former can affect the latter. Among those attending will be film festival directors, exhibition curators, book week organizers, artists, and educators. The arts network meeting is a forum for building a Community (ies) of practice with leading presenters of arts for Jews throughout North America.
