MASA Government Fellows

Opening the Door to Public Service

A new MASA program launched in September offers aspiring young policymakers and future leaders an entry into the corridors of government in Israel.

The Israel Government Fellows, a program of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, has created an exciting opportunity for talented college graduates (ages 21-30) to gain first-hand insight into policy and strategic planning in key government ministries.  Postings include the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Industry, Trade and Labor and many other government offices.

The core of the six month program is the internship, but this multi-disciplinary program also includes seminars, travels and encounters with public figures, officials and journalists.  Fellows explore life in Jerusalem and Israel and are introduced to their Israeli peers, which also enhances their Hebrew studies.  At the conclusion of the program, participants complete a project related to their internships.  They receive a certificate from the Menachem Begin Heritage Center and a personal letter from their mentors.

The nineteen promising young men and women inaugurated into the fall session are enthusiastic about immersing themselves in the day-to-day work of Israel’s democratic institutions. It is a career booster and an adventure.

Like all MASA programs (over 150 and counting!), the new Israel Government Fellows program provides an enriching experience and enables participants to make a personal contribution to Israeli society.  The Fellows have already demonstrated their interest in community and professional leadership.  The program will deepen their ties to Israel and the Jewish people over the course of their lives.
