Coming of Age in Jerusalem

November 9, 2008 / 11 Cheshvan 5769

Twenty Ethiopian immigrant families, who after years of waiting for aliyah and now reside at the Jewish Agency Kiryat Yam Absorption Center in northern Israel, celebrated their sons' bar mitzvahs in an emotional ceremony at the Western Wall.

After the ceremony of being called up to the Torah at the Western Wall, they visited the Western Wall tunnels, and enjoyed a festive finale with dinner in Jerusalem, all this thanks to the wonderful donors who opened their hearts and wallets on behalf of the immigrants.

This event marks a significant step on their new path in Israel, an important step towards bonding, reinforcing national pride and their connection to Jewish and Israeli culture.

To help finance bar/bat mitzvah celebrations, or to make a donation in honor of your bar or bat mitzvah or to share your Bar / Bat Mitzvah with a new immigrant, contact: Danielle Mor at DanielleP@jafi.org or click here.
